Trial & usage
LakeSail includes one free trial per organization. Open Settings → Billing to see the trial, subscriptions, usage, and rates. By default, Owners and Billing Admins can manage billing; other members can view the trial status. See Roles & permissions.
How the free trial works
The trial begins when your first job, session, or notebook starts. Creating the organization or infrastructure does not start it. If you subscribe with Stripe before starting a workload, checkout starts the trial.
While the trial is active:
- Workloads can run without a subscription.
- Measured usage is not charged.
- The dashboard, sidebar, and Billing page show when the trial ends.
- If the Billing page shows Trial usage so far, it estimates what the usage would cost after the trial. If you already subscribed, open View metering instead. Trial usage is marked as not charged.
Usage figures update hourly. After the trial, LakeSail uses your active billing source. Without one, new workloads are paused.
What LakeSail measures
LakeSail charges for managed workload compute using the active Rate Card:

The total combines both units. Settings → Billing shows the current currency and prices.
Review billing usage
- Open Settings → Billing.
- Under Subscriptions, click View metering.
- Choose a preset or custom date range. Include zero-usage windows shows periods with no charge. The option is hidden during trials and for ranges with trial usage.

Stripe also offers its current billing period as a range. AWS subscriptions use the standard ranges because AWS owns the invoice cycle.
Understand billing status
| Status | Meaning | What to do |

| Trial | The free trial is active | Set up billing before the displayed end date |
| Pending | The provider has not finished activating the subscription | Wait for the page to update; do not subscribe again |
| Active | The subscription covers usage | No action required |
| Past Due | A card payment failed, but workloads are still running | Open Manage subscription and update the payment method |
| Suspended | An unpaid invoice has paused new workloads covered by this subscription | Click Reinstate subscription and settle the invoice |
| Unsubscribed | The provider relationship ended | Use the displayed resubscribe action to restore billing |
For Suspended and Unsubscribed subscriptions, the Billing page shows how long affected clusters and data are preserved.
Choose a billing provider
- Stripe covers the organization with card billing.
- AWS Marketplace bills a specific AWS account through its AWS bill.
You can use both. Matching AWS agreements cover their AWS accounts; Stripe covers the remaining connections.
